Plate migrates CMSs from AWS to European cloud

Veenendaal, The Netherlands - Plate is migrating both of its SaaS CMS platforms, Plate Delta and Plate Multisite, to a Dutch cloud infrastructure that is part of a broader European, EU-funded initiative. This step reflects our ambition to gain more control over hosting, privacy and data sovereignty, and to actively contribute to a strong European digital ecosystem.

Like most SaaS platforms, Plate has relied on AWS for over 10 years. That worked and enabled our growth and scaling to where we are today. At the same time, the role of infrastructure has changed. Content platforms are no longer just delivery systems; they are becoming foundational layers for knowledge, governance and AI-driven experiences. That requires a different level of control, transparency and long-term independence.

Increasing competitive advantage

This move strengthens our own resilience and creates a more stable foundation for customers and partners operating in an increasingly Europe-oriented regulatory and technological landscape, with a growing focus on what we can build and operate ourselves within this continent.

By moving to fully Dutch-based hosting within a federated European setup, we enable our partners to increase their competitive advantage in tenders. The Dutch government has set the ambition that by 2029 at least 30% of all government websites and content should be hosted on local clouds. This ambition is increasingly becoming a hard criterion in tenders, and with this move we create additional, concrete value for our partners and customers.

Why ECOFED

The migration is carried out in collaboration with ECOFED, a Dutch consortium focused on building a federated European cloud as a credible alternative to American hyperscalers. ECOFED brings together Info Support, i3D.net, BIT, AMS-IX and TNO and is supported by the Dutch government and the European Union as part of the IPCEI-CIS programme. Through this programme, the EU is investing €2.6 billion in cloud infrastructure and services of strategic European importance.

Plate is the first CMS platform to be onboarded onto this initiative. The managed service provider supporting this transition is Info Support.

What this means for customers

From a customer and partner perspective, nothing changes. There are no required migrations, no changes to daily workflows and no planned downtime. The transition will be rolled out gradually under the hood during mid-Q2 and is fully managed by Plate.

Once the migration is completed, all content and customer data will be stored in the Netherlands. Because ECOFED operates as a federated cloud, it will also be possible to host individual websites with different European providers in participating countries.

Leading by doing

Plate sees this step as more than a technical migration. It is a statement of confidence in European engineering, European collaboration and the belief that we do not have to wait for others to set the standard.

Guts and boundary pushing are core to Plate’s culture. By moving first, Plate aims to show that European SaaS platforms can take ownership of their foundations and build competitive, future-proof products without outsourcing their core to others. That is how Plate builds for the next decade.
