PHP vulnerability: why Plate is not affected

On 20 October the PHP security team announced a security update for two critical vulnerabilities in PHP. The update will be released on 21 October at 16:00 CEST. Several organisations have temporarily taken their websites offline as a precaution, because the vulnerabilities can be exploited remotely.

What does this mean for your Plate website?

Nothing. Plate runs on Ruby on Rails and does not use PHP. Websites hosted on Plate are therefore not affected by these vulnerabilities. You do not need to update anything, and your website does not need to go offline.

Do you also have websites outside Plate?

Then it is wise to check with the host or administrator of those websites whether PHP is used, and when the security update will be installed.

Beware of fake messages

After an announcement like this, criminals try to piggyback on it. They may pose as your hosting provider and ask for login details under the guise of an urgent update. Unsure about a message? Contact Plate Support.
